Sonos Play 5 Standby Power Consumption

Dug out my kill a watt ez and my gen 1 play 5 these numbers are at 120 volts.

Sonos play 5 standby power consumption.

Over a year this is about 25x24hx365 219 kwh. And if not how much power is the play 5 likely to consume when there s no audio being output. My question is if i leave the line in connected but switch off my tv on standby. When playing music it goes up to 35 40 watts which doesn t seem too high but the idle power consumption is shocking.

I would like to know the power consumption in the following scenario. It uses 3 5 4w in standby which is relatively high if you only use your sonos every now and then. The play 5 2nd gen seems to have reduced power consumption to 1w when in idle that is good but the cost is too high. Turning the microphone off on standby saves you.

Watts is a unit of power the rate at which energy is consumed not. Watt 5 1 va 14 1 pf 35 not far from the sonos 6 9 watt spec. Anyway i got the old wattage meter out and did a test and was a bit shocked to find that during idle mode standby the zp120 consumes 25 watts. 100 hours at 80 volume.

Sonos is designed to be instantly on and ready to play at a moment s notice. Does anyone have stats that show to a layman what my various ca s play 5. Playing music but it will depend on the volume. Not completely powered off will my sonos play 5 eventually go into sleep mode or not.

Btw as electronic engineer i can say that adding the wol function is very easy and making it configurable by user just enlarge the audience without sacrifice usability in other use cases. Sonos product 230v eu play 1 3 8 watts one microphone on up to 4 1 watts play 5 gen2 2 2 watts beam microphone on up to 5 5 watts playbase 3 0. It uses less electricity when idle and not actively playing music.

The table below describes watts w consumed by each sonos product while in idle mode. Having 5 sonos devices around this means 25 watts on average idle consumption. Sonos claim around 6 watts during standby here that s a massive difference.
